So a little history tidbit for you this morning…
Back in 1903, when our first church building was built, the congregation decided to name the church “The Scandinavian Elim Church”. Did you know that “Elim” is a place in the bible? I was reading in Numbers last night and came across this verse:“They left Marah and camped at Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees.” ~Numbers 33:9
This verse made me smile. Palm trees & springs of water?! I don’t know about you, but that seriously sounds like heaven on earth! 🙂
But it also got me thinking of our history here. What were our forefathers thinking when they named this place, Elim? We’re in the middle of a prairie and we obviously don’t have springs of water or palm trees! But maybe this place was like an oasis for them? A place to getaway and disconnect from the hardships of life for a few moments. A place of rest and peace – to be rejuvenated and refreshed. A place to meet with God and to be reminded how much they are loved. If that’s the case, they named the church well. And even though we no longer carry the name ‘Elim’, this little church in The Field still does bring peace and rest – because God is among us. After all these years, He’s still here, loving, caring and bringing peace to those who seek Him.
It looks like it’s going to be an absolutely beautiful weekend! Bring your family and join us on Sunday as we gather together for worship, prayer, communion and fellowship.
Looking forward to seeing you here.
