Christmas Week News

The advent is nearing completion. Hope, Peace, Joy and Love have now brought us to the Christmas week. For indeed, “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given.” Folks, this is truth and with it brings so much hope, peace, joy and love. My prayer is that this will continue to become more and more real to each of us, all throughout the year.

We’d like to invite you all – your friends and your family to our Christmas Eve Candlelight and Carol Service, tomorrow at 7:00pm. This is such a great way to celebrate our Saviour’s birth! Gathering together, reading scripture, singing carols and hearing an encouraging Word. We hope that this service will be a beautiful beginning to your Christmas celebrations.

And then we invite you to our Sunday morning worship service at 11:00am. We’ll be singing a few more carols and sharing together in prayer and in fellowship. AND we’ll be hearing from Dave A., as he shares his journey story with us. (Remember that there’s NO Sunday school this week. We’ll reconvene the classes on January 3rd.)

Wishing you all a very heartfelt Merry Christmas!

1st Advent Weekend News

Today is what is commonly known as ‘Black Friday’ in the United States. The day after American Thanksgiving when all the stores go crazy with markdowns and sales, and the people follow in suit. In the past few years, this shopping craze has slowly made it’s way into Canada, with us, too, now focusing on ‘Black Friday’. I find it interesting, and somewhat sad, that this happens on the same weekend as the first Sunday in Advent. A time when our focus should be on the coming of Jesus, as we reflect on this incredible gift that was given from a loving God. Isaiah declares in chapter 52, verse 7:

“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation,
the news that the God of Israel reigns!”

This is the good news and why we celebrate. The reason that we have HOPE, in the midst of all circumstances – the coming of Jesus, our Saviour and King.

This Sunday, Pastor Randall will be sharing about this HOPE, as we light the first candle on the advent wreath. We’ll also be hearing readings and scripture – and singing the first of the Christmas carols – all in anticipation and preparation for Jesus’ birth, during this advent season.

We’ll be doing something a little bit different during the offering time. We are inviting YOU to bring non-perishable food items and toys, on the Sundays in Advent. These items will be presented during the offering, and then given to families who are in need this Christmas season.

After the morning worship service, there will be a full dress rehearsal for the Sunday School Christmas concert. Please have your costumes and lines ready, as this will be the only practice before next Friday’s Christmas concert.

And lastly, if you are a youth – there is a Youth Hayride happening on Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00pm, at Matt & Jeramie-Lee’s farm. They’ll also be filling backpacks for N.O.W. So, come on out, bring a snack to share and dress for the weather. It’s gonna be a great evening!

Weekend News

It looks like winter has finally arrived. Are you enjoying the snow? I know of a number of kids who had big smiles on their faces, as the snow was falling this week! 🙂

This Sunday, we are heading back to our roots in song…as we enjoy a morning of hymns and the stories behind the hymns. Pastor Randall will also be sharing a meditation with us, and of course we’ll still be having our prayer time and our after service coffee fellowship time. So bring a friend and come and join us at 11:00am for this Sunday’s ‘Hymn Sunday Worship Service’. (Sunday School at 9:45am).

Upcoming Weekend News

Morning Folks,

I was reading in 1 Thessalonians this week, and in chapter 5, there is a very short but important verse. In light of what my week has been holding, and for so many of you as well, this is a good reminder…

“Never stop praying.” ~1 Thessalonians 5:17

Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

On Saturday the youth are gathering at Matt & Jeramie-Lee’s for the Amazing Race and weiner roast, from 5:30 – 9:30 pm. Please bring a flashlight, roasting stick and dress appropriately for the weather.

Pastor Randall & Pastor Marc will be leading our worship service this Sunday. It’s also our Covenant Bay Bible Camp Giving Sunday. We’ll be hearing updates and news from Camp. If you’d like to financially support them, please make your cheques payable to ‘CBBC’. Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes are also due back this Sunday. So, please remember to bring them, and we’ll send them off with a prayer.

Then on Sunday evening, ‘The Family Project’ will continue at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome to this (even if you missed the previous sessions). Child care is available.

That’s all for now. Enjoy your week.

November Weekend News

Good morning All!

The sun is shining but the brain is foggy. Ever have one of those days? I’m pretty thankful for good coffee this morning!! 🙂

So, what do we have happening this weekend? Our Lead Pastor is home! We’re happy to welcome Pastor Randall and Lauralea back to The Field! Pastor Randall will be back to leading our 11:00am Worship service and sharing a message from God’s word for us. Pastor Marc is leading the mornings music and Children’s lesson.

We are indeed fortunate to have such a great team of Pastors to minister to us and among us, here at Malmo! I know that I’m blessed by it! If you are too, can I encourage you to share words of appreciation to our Pastors? October was the ‘official’ month of Pastors Appreciation. We didn’t mention it, for a number of reasons. However, I think that ANYTIME is a good time to appreciate your Pastors for all they do! 🙂

That’s all for this weekend. Hope you’ll have a chance to get out & enjoy the nice weather, and we’ll see you on Sunday at 9:45am for Sunday School and 11:00am for Worship.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

Weekend News

Another lovely fall day out there! Hard to believe it’s the last week of October, with the weather like this! I sure am enjoying it! (Sorry Kyra – I know you’re ‘dying’ for the snow! 😉

There’s number of things going on this weekend! On Saturday evening from 4:30pm and on, Jay & Alli P. are having a little community drop-in party for any folks who are out & about on Halloween. All are welcome to stop by for a hot dog & hot chocolate, if you are in the area!

We have a great Sunday planned for you! It starts off with Sunday School at 9:45am, and then into our Worship service at 11:00am. We’ll be sharing together in music, prayer and Holy Communion, and Pastor Marc will be sharing a few thoughts from God’s word for us.

Then after the service, we get to eat together! 🙂 Yup! That’s right – it’s time for another potluck – so please bring enough food for your family, and some extra to share. You may be asking yourself ‘Why are we having a potluck?’ Well, two reasons. ONE, because you’re all great cooks and it’s been forever since we’ve eaten each others food! And TWO, because we will be having a special missions presentation, after we eat lunch. We’ll have missionaries with us who will be sharing about their work and experiences. The community has also been invited to come and join us for this event, so please keep that in mind, as you bring your food. Groups 2 AND 3 are on for set up & clean up for this event. (If you’re unsure which group you’re in, please click here.)

Then at 6:30pm, the next session of The Family Project will be presented here at Malmo. The topic this week is, ‘What are our basic human needs?’. Everyone is welcome to participate in this discussion & event. Child care is available.

AND another bonus of this weekend? An extra hour of sleep!! It’s time change weekend, so remember to turn your clocks BACK one hour on Saturday night.

I think that covers it all for this weekend. I’m looking forward to it! Hope to see you all here!

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Christmas is right around the corner – and that means as a church, we’ll be participating again in “Operation Christmas Child”.  This is a program, operated by ‘Samaritan’s Purse’, that sends shoeboxes filled with hygiene items, toys, books, etc., to hurting children in countries around the world.

Why should we get involved in this ministry? “Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on project of Samaritan’s Purse that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ – God’s greatest gift.” – Samaritans Purse.  That’s the best reason of all.

If you’d like more information about the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ program, or about Samaritans Purse, please click here.

Please bring your filled boxes back to church on November 15th.  We’ll be gathering them & sending them off with our prayers.

Womens Triennial Conference

Every 3 years Women Ministries offers a gathering for all the women of the Covenant.  This 5 day experience is a retreat/vacation that can be life changing. Exceptional speakers, spiritual directors, the Hall of Justice, guided and individual prayer experiences, and fun excursions all add up to an unforgettable time away.

The theme this year is ‘Quench’.  Meagan Gillan, Directory for the E.C.C. WM, says that “the theme is taken from Isaiah 12:3;  With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation. We thirst for many things: love, hope, significance, community, and more. But often we see people striving to quench their thirst in ways that do not truly satisfy. At Triennial XV, women will be invited to explore their thirst, and will be encouraged to quench that thirst in the only way that really satiates–with the Living Water offered by Jesus Christ.”

Registration for Triennial XV, IS NOW OPEN!  The conference is in Kansas City, MO, from July 28-31st.  Early bird prices are available until mid-January 2016.
