Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Christmas is right around the corner – and that means as a church, we’ll be participating again in “Operation Christmas Child”.  This is a program, operated by ‘Samaritan’s Purse’, that sends shoeboxes filled with hygiene items, toys, books, etc., to hurting children in countries around the world.

Why should we get involved in this ministry? “Operation Christmas Child provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on project of Samaritan’s Purse that focuses on the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ – God’s greatest gift.” – Samaritans Purse.  That’s the best reason of all.

If you’d like more information about the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ program, or about Samaritans Purse, please click here.

Please bring your filled boxes back to church on November 15th.  We’ll be gathering them & sending them off with our prayers.

Womens Triennial Conference

Every 3 years Women Ministries offers a gathering for all the women of the Covenant.  This 5 day experience is a retreat/vacation that can be life changing. Exceptional speakers, spiritual directors, the Hall of Justice, guided and individual prayer experiences, and fun excursions all add up to an unforgettable time away.

The theme this year is ‘Quench’.  Meagan Gillan, Directory for the E.C.C. WM, says that “the theme is taken from Isaiah 12:3;  With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation. We thirst for many things: love, hope, significance, community, and more. But often we see people striving to quench their thirst in ways that do not truly satisfy. At Triennial XV, women will be invited to explore their thirst, and will be encouraged to quench that thirst in the only way that really satiates–with the Living Water offered by Jesus Christ.”

Registration for Triennial XV, IS NOW OPEN!  The conference is in Kansas City, MO, from July 28-31st.  Early bird prices are available until mid-January 2016.

For more information on this event go to their website at: www.covchurch.org/triennial/

Good morning Folks!

Lovely Autumn day out there! I guess this year we can’t complain that we’ve had ‘no Autumn’. The weather has truly been amazing!

What are you doing TONIGHT? No plans? GOOD! Then come and join us at 6:30pm at Barry & Marcia’s barn for a good old fashioned Community Square Dance!! If you didn’t buy tickets on Sunday – that’s ok! Tickets are available at the door for $8/person or $35/family. Not only are we going to have some great fun and visiting with neighbours, BUT we’ll also be helping a great cause in supporting our youth as they fundraise for ‘Neighbours Outreach Wetaskiwin’. (All proceeds to be used to purchase winter supplies for Wetaskiwin’s homeless. Donations of supplies are also gladly accepted – New mittens, toques, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.)

This Sunday we’ll be gathering at Malmo for Sunday School at 9:45am and Worship Service at 11:00am. Pastor Marc will be leading the service and sharing God’s word with us.

And if you’re a Football Fan – the Eskies are playing B.C. on Saturday afternoon at 5:00pm. (Sorry Randall – I couldn’t resist!  🙂

Happy Thanksgiving Folks!

It is Thanksgiving Weekend! Do you have any plans? Do you have your turkey? I have a ‘few’ turkeys around, myself – but they all still got their heads & feathers on! (a little farm humour ☺) But yes, us turkey farmers DO eat turkey for thanksgiving too! Whatever you have planned this weekend, I hope you’ll enjoy those around you and give God the ‘Thanks’ for all His goodness!

This Thanksgiving Sunday, we’ll be meeting together at Malmo for Sunday School at 9:45am and our Worship Service at 11:00am. If you have family over for the weekend, I hope you’ll bring them along and all join us for this Thanksgiving Service.

See you Sunday!

Spending Time

I have a confession to make. I’ve been complaining to God these past few days about the book in the bible, ‘Ezekiel’. I’ve been reading this book for the past 16 days, as part of my daily bible reading – and wow, have I been struggling with the readings! I’m having a hard time finding anything ‘useful’ or ‘relevant’ for my life. Well, I’m up to chapters 40 & 41 today and was praying for God to speak to me in the scriptures – to help me to find something I can take away from this book. Well, after reading about the specifications of the temple, I have to be honest and say that ‘I got nothing’.  Feeling a bit discouraged, I opened a little devotional book called ‘Jesus Calling’, by Sarah Young. Through today’s devotional reading, God is revealing to me what’s most important…

Sit still in the Light of My Presence, and receive My Peace. These quiet moments with me transcend time, accomplishing far more than you can imagine. Bring Me the sacrifice of your time and watch to see how abundantly I bless you and your loved ones. Through the intimacy of our relationship you are being transformed from the inside out.”

God is asking for my time – to spend time with Him by just being in His Presence. And whether I ‘get something’ from Ezekiel or not, it doesn’t matter. What matters is spending time in His Presence; being open to what He is saying (& listening because He speaks in many different ways). I am being transformed because I am in HIS Presence, and HIS Spirit is doing the work in my soul. Just like Moses’ face shined after He spent time with God on the mountain, (Exodus 34:30), God is still doing that transformation work today.

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the LORD. And the LORD – who is the Spirit – makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.”  -2 Corinthians 3:18

Ecuador Missions Trip 2016

Have YOU ever thought about going on a missions trip?  Well, this just might be the opportunity for you & your family!

“The Evangelical Covenant Church of Ecuador (Iglesia Pacto Evangelica del Ecuador, or IPEE) has invited the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada (ECCC) to partner with them to build up the body of Christ in a global way.

For several years Andy and Jenell Pluim, former Covenant missionaries to Ecuador, have lead an ECCC mission trip to Ecuador. In recent years we’ve been serving Sumaco, a small village in the eastern jungle to support that community after surviving a devastating earthquake and encourage them in agricultural development and children’s ministry. The next trip, in 2016, will be directed by Natasha Westerhoud and Arden Gustafson.” (www.covchurch.ca)

The team is going to Ecuador from February 12th to 22nd, 2016.

For more information on the next trip, contact Natasha Westerhoud or Arden Gustafson at the Norquay Covenant Church. Phone: (306) 594-2233, or see the attached brochure below.
