News for this Weekend

Hi Folks!

Isn’t this rain amazing?! It’s been long-awaited & I am so thankful for it!

The CHIC team is scheduled to arrive home late on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Not sure if they’ll be awake & coherent enough to join us for worship on Sunday – but we’re thanking God for their adventures & time in Tennessee! They’ll be sharing a bit about their trip NEXT SUNDAY, July 26th.

This Sunday is our ‘Neighbour Outreach Wetaskiwin’ Giving Sunday. Blayne will be sharing a bit about what’s been happening at NOW. If you’d like to financially support Neighbours Outreach, and all that they’re doing in our community, please make your cheques payable to ‘NOW’. Pastor Randall will be leading us in worship and sharing from Psalm 32 on ‘Hide and Seek from God’. And our music & the band is being lead by the lovely Dixie.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? So plan on joining us, Sunday at 10:00am.

P.S. For those of you who might know the Axelsen family – a reminder that the Memorial Service for Colin & Madeline is on Sunday at 3:30pm at the Wetaskiwin Mission Church. Please keep praying.

Summer Weekend News

Some of you may already know – but early this morning, Pastor Marc, Charlene & (7) of our youth got on a coach bus (along with the Breton & Strathmore youth groups) to head 4000+km down to Tennessee for CHIC 2015. The Conference begins on Sunday and continues to Thursday. (Our group gets home late Saturday night). Would you be praying for them over this next week? For safety, for fun and especially for openness to hear what God is saying to them.

So with Pastor Marc in Tennessee, Pastor Randall is on his own, as he leads the morning 10:00 am worship service. Come on out & join him & our music leader, Jenell and the rest of us, to worship, pray, listen & give thanks for God’s goodness. And of course there’s our coffee fellowship time downstairs, immediately following the service.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? ☺

See you Sunday!

Weekend News

Happy Friday Folks!

Are you enjoying the heat?  We’re kind of split here in the office…one of us loves the heat, one of us really does NOT like it, and the third one is on the fence about it. (I’ll let you figure out who’s who!)
We’ve got a great Sunday service lined up for you!  The Pastors have been working hard at planning the worship for you – whether that be in song, children’s story, scripture reading or message – they’re all ways that we come before God in worship.  A reminder again, that our worship service begins at 11:00 am.

After the service, everyone is invited to a ‘His & Hers’ wedding shower potluck for Justin & Ashley.  This is a ‘cold’ food potluck. (ie. salads, sandwiches, buns & meat, cheese, pickles, etc.  It’s not necessary to bring any dessert, as it will be provided.)  Please bring enough food for your family and some to share.  Group 1 will be on for setting up & cleaning up.  If you are unsure which service group that you’re a part of, click here.
Lastly, please take a moment to complete the Directory Information form.  We REALLY DO need it completed from you.  Below, are copies of the form.  A ‘fillable pdf’ if you’d like to type in your info, save it & email it back to me.  Or one that you can print & fill in by hand.  The choice is yours.  Thanks for your help with this.  I appreciate it!
Enjoy your weekend & I’ll see you on Sunday!

Beautiful day to reflect

Clary Nelson passed away last winter and the family decided to wait until the weather was warmer to hold a committal service. Well today we gathered to commit her remains to the earth from which it came.

My view from work today

What a glorious day it was too. Warm, not too hot out. The sky was big and blue, and the expanse of the earth held so many variations of green. It was impressive.

I spent the morning reflecting on Clary’s story and how quickly it seems to go past. And then people like me remain to prepare words that touch on the unique strengths of Clary’s life.

My view from work today

For her it wasn’t difficult, even though I didn’t really know her before her illness. Her family and friends kept repeating the same sorts of themes they saw in her life. And I wondered what themes would keep being repeated once my life was over.

Flowers for Clary

How about you? What will people keep saying about you when you are gone?

Weekend News

Hi there Folks!  Lots going on these days!  Here’s just a bit of life at Malmo…

First – as you’ve heard, we are working on updating the church directory. It’s been a couple of years since this was done, so we felt that it was time to review it again. In looking through our current directory, I’ve noticed how quickly some data can change – especially with email addresses and cell phone numbers. So we are asking again for your information, to make sure we compile an accurate directory. If you’d like to print the form & fill it out by hand, use this form:  Church Info Form.  For your convenience, we also have a ‘fillable pdf’ available for you here: Church Info Form FILLABLE.  The choice is yours what you’d prefer to use.  Only one form per family is needed. Thank you for your patience and help in filling out this form & getting it back to me. It truly does help me ALOT!

Secondly – we’ve been modifying our website to (hopefully) help you to find some things easier. We tried to identify some information that you might like to access on a more frequent basis. In the center of the Main Page, we have added: “Malmo Quick Links”. All the ‘words’ listed are linked to the pages with the corresponding information. We hope that you find this helpful. Give us some feedback, as we’d love to hear what you think.

And Lastly – Our weekend news! This Sunday is Father’s Day AND it is also our ‘Canada Conference Giving Sunday’. We’ll be hearing news about what’s happening with Church Planting in the conference. We are also giving you an opportunity to financially support all the work that our Conference does across Canada. (If you’re able to help in this way, please make your cheques payable to ECCC.) Our Worship service also includes music – lead by Dixie & the band, prayers & children’s story – lead by Pastor Marc, and a message from God’s word, shared by Pastor Randall. OH! And don’t forget to stay for our fellowship time as we’ll be having treats downstairs for Dad!

Worship service begins at 11:00 am! (No Sunday School for the summer).

Thanks for reading folks! I’ll see you on Sunday!

Another year gone by!

Last Wednesday Malmo Community Youth Group had their year-end party, which included a wiener roast, a water fight, and a giant slip-n’-slide. God answered prayer: at 4:00 it was overcast and cool, by 5:15 there were barely any clouds in the sky and the sun was shining warm and bright. We have a lot of fun at this party every year, and as leaders we had conflicted feelings of both sadness and relief!

Thanks to our youth for making this a fun year! We wish you all the best through the summer. Remember: be a neighbour!

It was another good year for our youth ministry. We had an average of 36 youth on Wednesdays (sometimes breaking 40, other weeks not breaking 30), from all over the place and various stages of faith. This last bit—various stages of faith—has been both exciting and challenging for the leadership. How do we challenge the youth more mature in the faith but also encourage those at early stages to go deeper? This, it seems, is the eternal challenge of youth ministry.

As I was preparing for our last evening together, I did some rough calculating about how many people were in one way or another involved in this ministry, and the number is impressive:

Leaders present on an average youth night: 8
Substitute leaders on call: 3
Leadership/planning committee: 4
Other “unseen” ministries: 7
Number of unique cooks throughout the year: 39

There is some overlap between the different categories, but that’s 61 different roles involved in our youth ministry, and this doesn’t include everyone who helped with socials and all of you who prayed for the youth ministry throughout the week and especially when the call went out on Facebook on Wednesday nights! This tells me that we have a community behind this ministry in many different ways, and we are grateful.

Of course, numbers aren’t everything. A gathering of 5 youth with a leader would be an equally valuable ministry. The numbers speak mostly of support.

So, thank you to each of you for a great year and for your support. Please continue to pray for our ministry as we say goodbye to some of our leaders and discern new leadership as well as what’s next for this ministry.

Childrens Day Weekend News

This Sunday we will be at Covenant Bay Bible Camp for our annual Childrens Day Celebration. The morning worship service begins at 10:00am in the Camp Chapel (there is NO worship service in our Malmo building on Sunday). Part of our morning worship service will include a baby dedication and a baptism at the lake. We’ll be rejoicing with Heidi H. & her son, Lincoln, on this special occasion. After the service, we’ll be having a BBQ lunch & games & face painting & canteen – & so much more! So plan on enjoying the day with us out at camp.

If you’re unsure how to get to camp, click here for a map.

Enjoy your day!

Weekend News

Beautiful day, isn’t it? We woke up to fog out here in the country, and watching it dissipate to reveal the sun was a beautiful sight to see this morning! Couldn’t help but think how amazing our God is & how intricately He created our world!

This Sunday we are celebrating with our High School grads! Kyra, Ashton & Wilson are all graduating from Grade 12 this year. We’ll be having a time to recognize them in the service, and of course downstairs as well, with fellowship & cake!

This Sunday is also the first Sunday in June – which here at Malmo means we’ll be celebrating Holy Communion together. What a privilege it is to be able to come before God in remembrance and confession and thankfulness for all He’s done for us. Click here if you would like to reflect on the words of a prayer, to help you ready your heart for Holy Communion.

Sunday School is almost over for the season – with this Sunday being the last class, before we break for Summer. Thank you to ALL of our dedicated and caring Sunday School teachers for their countless hours of prep time and teaching!! Your work has not gone unnoticed and we are so thankful for YOU!!

Can you tell that it’s going to be a great Sunday? We’ll see you there!!
