Weekend News

A number of our people are heading down to Strathmore, AB this afternoon, to attend the Canada Covenant Conference’s Annual General Meeting.  Please be praying for them this weekend, as they meet together with others from across Canada.
With our Pastors away at the Conference, our Malmo Deacons are stepping in and will be leading this Sunday’s service.  We’ll also be hearing stories & experiences from 3 different areas of ministry that some of our people are involved in…Christian Motorcycle Association & Maskwacis Prison Ministry, Adventures in Leadership and Sole Hope.  And of course, our worship will also include music, lead by Christy, prayers and fellowship time.
Hope to see you on Sunday!

Long Weekend News

It’s the long weekend!! What does that mean for you and your family? Do you get your RV ready and go camping? Or do you have extended family over for the long weekend? Or is it traditionally the weekend to plant the garden & get all the patio furniture out for the season? Whatever your plans are, I hope it will be an enjoyable and fun weekend for you! (Even for you farmers out there!) 😉

This Sunday is our ‘World Relief Giving Sunday’. Our world is in so much need – physical & spiritual. We’ll be sharing with you a bit about the different ‘relief’ opportunities that we can help out with. (If you’re able to help with this financially, please make your cheques out to ECCC).

We’ve got the 11:00am Sunday Worship Service all planned for you! Pastor Marc will be sharing God’s word with us, Heather will be leading our music & Darryl will be leading the prayer time. So take some time this weekend, and join us on Sunday for worship, prayer and fellowship.

And remember again to be praying for Pastor Randall & Lauralea (& Micah too) this weekend. For rest & safety as they’ll be travelling many hours as they’re heading home.

Mother’s Day Weekend News

The trees aren’t quite all leafed out yet, and the temperatures are still a little cool – but the calendar says that it’s Mother’s Day Weekend! Are you ready to spoil your mom and/or wife this weekend? 🙂

For starters – why not bring her to church this Sunday for worship at 11:00am? We’ve got a great service planned. Pastor Marc is sharing God’s word with us & a children’s lesson for the kids. Dixie is leading the music, and one of our deacons (Matt) will be leading us in our prayer time. And because it’s Mother’s Day, we have a gift for all the ladies too!

And remember to be praying for Pastor Randall & Lauralea too, as they’re away for a couple of weeks of vacation.

Have a great weekend & we’ll see you on Sunday!

Youth Making a Difference

A number of our youth got together last Saturday at the Manluk Aquatic Centre.  They had some time together to swim and enjoy pizza – but the main focus of the afternoon was to work on a service project called ‘Sole Hope’.  This is a non-profit organization that helps kids & adults in Uganda to acquire proper footwear.  In Uganda, those who don’t have shoes are susceptible to ‘Jiggers’ – which are parasitic insects that burrow into feet and cause all sorts of health problems, and possibly even death.

About 20 youth & 6 adults, traced and cut shoe patterns out of denim that they either brought with them, or that was donated to this project by our community.  Over 30 shoe kits were assembled and are ready to ship to ‘Sole Hope’!

Thanks to Jeramie-Lee for organizing this event!  It was a huge success – not only in the ‘fun factor’, but in bringing awareness of issues that others face to our youth and showing them that they can make a difference – even here in small-town Wetaskiwin!

Check out these great pics of the day!  Photo credits:  Jeramie-Lee N. & Marc V.

A Prayer for Planting Season

Prayer for Planting Season

Father, we are a church planted in a field.
And though our own fields may be in different places
we are still, in many ways, people connected to the land.

For our food and sustenance, for our daily bread, we give you thanks.
For the strength to work in our fields of service, we give you thanks.
For this place, a gathering place in a field with roots that go down over a hundred years,
we thank you Lord for those who have worked here, before us.

Now oh Lord, we ask that you would again, bless the land.
Bless the seeds and the earth.
Bless the skies and the sun and the rain.
Bless the workers with safety and the
wisdom to know,
when enough is enough.
Oh Lord, bless this season.

It is good for us to stop and to remember and to say it out loud,
that our life comes from you Lord, and not from our fields.

So thank you Father, for whatever you’ll do with the work that we’ve done.
We know that without your blessing, we will struggle.
And without seasons of drought, we forget to pray.

So we’ll take what you give, just as you give it,
for you are our Father and you only give good gifts.
Though we tremble a bit, because we want what we want,
We choose to entrust this year to you, because of your great love for us.
And so we ask for the Blessing.

Father, Bless this year.
Amen.

Weekend News

Happy Friday!

We were doing the ‘happy dance’ in our house this morning because it’s Friday today! For some reason, this week has felt ‘heavy’ and full, and we are ready to have a weekend!

How about you? How’s your week been? Busy? Quiet? Fun? Need a vacation? Well, I can’t offer you a vacation, but I CAN offer you a place to come to meet GOD with other believers in fellowship & prayer – bringing all your ‘stuff’ – whatever that may be – to our GOD who IS big enough to handle it all. And that’s on Sunday morning at 11:00am, here at Malmo.

We have a unique worship service planned for you. We’ll be singing and telling the stories of the old songs of our history. Pastor Randall will be sharing about the ‘Language of Worship’. And Jon Drebert from Covenant Bay Bible Camp will also be with us, sharing about the life at camp. (We’ll be giving you an opportunity to financially support the camp, during the offering time. If you so desire, please make your cheques payable to ‘CBBC’.)

So I hope you make plans to join us on Sunday, because you are MISSED when you’re not here!
