Malmo News

News for this Weekend

Well, it’s the week after Easter and compared to the previous week, it is much ‘quieter’ around here! We’ve been enjoying the quiet, along with this beautiful spring-like weather!

We’re looking forward to meeting together this Sunday! Pastor Randall & Pastor Marc will be leading us in worship & prayer and Heather is leading the music for us. This Sundays talk is going to be for the young adults and those old adults who would prefer not to be so old. (I’m sure you know who you are)

So come out and learn some life tricks to staying young.

Holy Week Services

Holy Week is upon us and we’re getting ready to join together in a variety of services.

Tonight at 7:00pm, join us at Malmo for our Maundy Thursday service.  A time to remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples.  We’ll also be sharing together in the last supper (communion).
On Good Friday, we’ll be at New Sweden Mission Church at 10:00 am, joining together with their congregation, as we remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
Easter Sunday will be celebrated at Malmo with our 11:00 am worship service.  Bring flowers to decorate the stage, as we celebrate our risen Lord together!  (Sunday School is also available for all ages at 9:45 am).
Make plans to join us as we worship our Lord and Saviour together!

Due to the severe winds and crazy ‘not-spring-like’ weather, the Youth Planning Committee has decided to cancel youth for tonight.  The ‘Parents Praying for Youth’ gathering has also been cancelled.  Stay home & stay safe!

Also a reminder that there is NO YOUTH next Wednesday (April 8th), due to Wetaskiwin School Spring Break.  Youth will resume, as usual on April 15th.

Palm Sunday Weekend

It’s Palm Sunday Weekend.  I love Palm Sunday – the jubilation, the excitement – I can picture the crowd in my mind celebrating and cheering as Jesus comes into Jerusalem – and I can join them in their excitement.  Matthew tells us the following in his gospel:

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,   “Hosanna to the Son of David!”                                                                                               “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”                                                                 “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” -Matthew 21:8 & 9

At church on Sunday, we have palm leaves for the kids to begin the service with a ‘procession of palms’ as we read scripture and sing our Hosanna’s to the King.  So if you have kids that would like to be a part of the procession, have them meet in the foyer a few minutes before the service begins.

This Sunday is also a bit of a ‘do-over’!  With the spring snowstorm last week, we were unable to meet here together.  So the exciting things that were happening last Sunday, will be happening this Sunday instead!  Wayne K. & Les D. will be here, sharing about what’s going on with the Gideons.  (Last week I shared that it was Wayne & Lise – so that was my mistake – sorry Les!)  So if you’d like to financially support the Gideons in their work, we’ll be giving you an opportunity to do that.  (Please make your cheques payable to ‘The Gideons’).

We are also celebrating with one of our young families, as they bring their precious son forward in baptism.  WE are their community – their ‘village’ – so let’s be here to show our love and support for them!

Pastor Marc will also be back from his time at the Alaska Christian College.  He and Pastor Randall will be leading us in worship and prayer, and Christy will be leading the music.

A great Sunday indeed!  See you here!

Being Present

hebrews 2:1

It’s true.
Following after someone requires intentionality.
Listening needs presence.

“Pay attention” the mother in the shop says to her seven year old.
See what is happening here. Watch what I am doing so you can know how to do it yourself.
Paying attention will help you to not miss the details.

Drifting is fine for a hot summers day when you are on a raft floating down the North Saskatchewan river.
It’s not fine for a relationship. Just ask any emotionally abandoned lover.
Drifting isn’t enough for those big things in life.

To not lose our way, we must listen, be present, pay attention.

Are you paying attention to today?
Are you listening?
Are you present to the things you hear?

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”  -Hebrews 2:1

Worship Cancelled Today – March 22

Good morning Folks!

Due to the volume of snow that we have received overnight (& continue to receive), AND the poor condition of the highways on the way out to church, we have decided for everyone’s safety that Church is cancelled today.

Stay home, enjoy some time with your family and we’ll see you next Sunday! Same time, same place!

Healing Today

You know the church’s history of praying for healing for people has been a bit of a come and go thing over the past 2000 years. There are seasons where we practice it well and then there are seasons of quiet. We see seasons of incredible miracles and then we see nothing for a hundred or so years. While that may be a part of our past story, there is biblical reason to believe that it can be a helpful part of our ministries today, if we will have the courage to try.

I think some of us are generally afraid of the whole topic, so we end up saying that those sorts of things were for the early days of the church and are not for today.
I also think that we see the things we have simple faith to see.

During the past two weeks we tackled the difficult topic of Healing in the church and we explored some reasons why we may not see the answers we are looking for. It’s certainly not the definitive piece on healing, but it’s a good place to start looking at these things and perhaps to be challenged about our own thinking on it.

Part One: Praying for healing, an Overview

Part Two: What Happens When We’re Not Healed?

Youth Ministry Workers

You’ve heard about all the youth that are coming out on Wednesday nights for our youth gathering. But did you know that there are a lot of adults working with our youth and behind the scenes for our youth?  We’ve just recently compiled a list and we were amazed & truly thankful to God for answering our prayer to provide workers for this ministry.  As you take a look at this list, please be praying for these leaders – whether they work behind the scenes or are on-site engaging with our youth.  Your prayers are needed and appreciated!!
