Weekend News

Good afternoon Folks!

We’ve been receiving reports & news from some of you who participated in the Thursday Lenten Prayer.  Thank you so much for gathering to pray (whether corporately or individually), on behalf of Malmo.  It encourages us, here in the office, more than you’ll ever know!  So thank you!  🙂
I’m working on the Next Edition of our Phone Directory.  If you or anyone in your family have a change of information, (ie.  cell phone, email address, etc.). could you please let me know, by the end of February?  I’ll be printing the new books in the beginning of March.
Here’s your happenings for the weekend…
There is a Youth Skating Social at New Sweden, on Saturday at 7:00pm.  Please bring your skates, a game to play and a snack to share.  (BEFORE you head over to New Sweden, please check the Youth Facebook Page, in case there are issues with the ice, with this nice weather that we’ve been having.  Pastor Marc will post a notice, if there are any changes to the event.)
This Sunday is the second Sunday in our Lenten Journey.  The scripture you’ll be hearing, the responsive readings that we’ll be doing, and the sermon that Pastor Randall is sharing, all relate to our journey through this Lenten season.  So come with a ready heart to hear what God might be saying to you, during this Lenten journey.
This Sunday is also our ‘Canada Conference Giving Sunday’.  We’ll be sharing a bit about our Conference and the work that they do among us.  (If you’d like to financially support the Conference, please make your cheques out to ECCC.)  If you’d like to know more about our Conference, check out their website at www.covchurch.ca .
Sunday evening at 6:30pm, The Family Project is meeting again.  Everyone is welcome to attend, and childcare is available.
Enjoy your Friday and upcoming weekend, and I’ll see you on Sunday!

Lenten Weekend News

Good ‘Blustery Morning’ to you all!

I hope you’re staying warm & protected from that wind out there!
Today, two of our people are flying to warmer weather!  Rob B. & Amy K. are on their way to Texas to meet the rest of the Ecuador Missions team.  From there, they all fly together to Quito, and then journey on to Cayambe, Ecuador.  Would you be praying for them today – and for the coming week, as they work with the local people and with Joel & Kim (area leaders)?
I’m working on the Second Edition of our Church Directory.  If there has been ANY CHANGES in your contact information, (phone, cell, email, etc.), please give me those changes by the end of February, as I’ll be printing the directory shortly after that.  Thanks!!
This Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent.  Our focus during these next 40 days of Lent will be PRAYER.  So much prayer is needed – for our church, for our people, for our world.  Pastor Randall will be sharing more about that on Sunday.  This Sunday is also Valentine’s Day.  Pastor Marc has a special ‘Valentine’s Children’s Lesson’ planned for the kids.  We’ll also be seeing a video & hearing about our ‘Bible Memory Verse Program’.  And of course, our service will also be filled with worship, music, God’s word and fellowship.  A beautiful way to spend a morning, don’t you think?  🙂
That’s all for this weekend.  Enjoy your Friday and I’ll see you all soon!

“But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying “You are my God!”  My (our) future is in YOUR Hands.” ~Psalm 31:14-15a

Weekend & AGM News

Tomorrow is our Annual meeting, or what I prefer to call ‘Our Malmo Story Day’.  Because this meeting is much more than just facts and dollars.  It’s about peoples stories and changed lives because of the ministry that GOD is doing, HERE in this field.  And yes, we will be going through some facts and budgets, BUT that’s not our main focus.  Our focus is to give GOD glory and to love one another, as we recount all the stories and details and events that have happened over the last year, here at Malmo.  And so, to do that, we need you!  The body is not complete if we are missing people.  Your presence matters.  Your voice matters.  Your story matters.  So come, join us tomorrow at 1:00pm.  Members and friends – EVERYONE is welcome!

And then on Sunday, we’ll be gathering for Sunday School at 9:45am and Worship at 11:00am.  Pastor Randall has been working hard, preparing for the day, and Heather and the band have their music all chosen & prepared, and the Sunday School teachers have their lessons ready for all their students, and our amazing coffee hosts have been busy preparing goodies for us to enjoy during our fellowship time…and so much more!   All these different members of the body of Christ, offering their gifts and talents, so that we can gather together and worship and glorify God.  Pretty cool, I’d say!  🙂

“All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.” ~1 Corinthians 12:27

Be blessed today!

Weekend News

We’ve been busy here in the office, preparing for the upcoming annual meeting, (which is happening NEXT Saturday, January 23rd at 1:00pm).
The annual report book has been completed and is available to you in a couple of different formats.  The first is a fully digital version.  It’s a PDF file, so you should be able to open it on your computers or ipad or iphone or other digital device.  If you are on our weekly email list, we have already emailed you the report.  Due to the personal information in the annual book, the file is password protected on our website.  If you would like to access it, please email the office for the password.  Click here to go to the annual report book page.
If you prefer paper – we have that for you too.  The books will be available on Sunday, on the Malmo Information table in the foyer.  We hope that you’ll enjoy reading the stories and the news from 2015. It’s been a pretty fun book to compile – and to be reminded of how God is indeed working in our midst.
News for this weekend…
Tomorrow, (Saturday), there is a Skating Party for the Youth at New Sweden Mission Church, at 7:00pm.  Please bring a snack to share & dress for the weather.

I hope you can come and join us this weekend.  Look forward to seeing you.

Weekend News

How’s things on this frosty morning?  Honestly, here in the office, things are a bit ‘foggy’.  Getting used to the regular schedule and rhythm of the new year is not always easy, as I’m sure most of you know.  Good thing we only have to take one minute at a time!
Things are a bit quieter this weekend, with Sunday being the only day that we have church activities scheduled.
  • 9:45 am   Sunday School for all ages
  • 11:00am   Worship service.   Pastor Randall will be sharing God’s word with us, Pastor Marc has a children’s lesson planned and Dixie is leading the morning music.
  • 12:30pm   Fellowship & Coffee time downstairs.  Always a great way to connect and to continue to care for one another. (as we heard and were encouraged in last weeks message).
  • 6:30pm   The Family Project.  All are welcome to come & engage in this series about the Family.  (Childcare is available.)
Enjoy your weekend & I hope we’ll see you on Sunday!

Happy New Year!

Hello & Happy New Year! (Well almost…although it is in Australia already! 😉

Today is indeed the last day of 2015 for us Canadians. The year has been full, and for many of us, we’re ready to move forward into the ‘new’. But for some of us, that thought can be daunting or uncertain or anxiety-filled. But this one thing is certain – no matter what is ahead, or what we will face, God has promised to be with us – ALWAYS. Those are words that I can take comfort in. And I hope you can today too.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

This Sunday starts us back into our regular schedule, with Sunday School at 9:45am and our Worship Service at 11:00am. During the service, we’ll be sharing together in Holy Communion – a great way to gather together as we start this New Year, focusing on the amazing love that Jesus has shown us.

I hope you and your family can join us this Sunday.

Until then, I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Christmas Week News

The advent is nearing completion. Hope, Peace, Joy and Love have now brought us to the Christmas week. For indeed, “Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given.” Folks, this is truth and with it brings so much hope, peace, joy and love. My prayer is that this will continue to become more and more real to each of us, all throughout the year.

We’d like to invite you all – your friends and your family to our Christmas Eve Candlelight and Carol Service, tomorrow at 7:00pm. This is such a great way to celebrate our Saviour’s birth! Gathering together, reading scripture, singing carols and hearing an encouraging Word. We hope that this service will be a beautiful beginning to your Christmas celebrations.

And then we invite you to our Sunday morning worship service at 11:00am. We’ll be singing a few more carols and sharing together in prayer and in fellowship. AND we’ll be hearing from Dave A., as he shares his journey story with us. (Remember that there’s NO Sunday school this week. We’ll reconvene the classes on January 3rd.)

Wishing you all a very heartfelt Merry Christmas!

1st Advent Weekend News

Today is what is commonly known as ‘Black Friday’ in the United States. The day after American Thanksgiving when all the stores go crazy with markdowns and sales, and the people follow in suit. In the past few years, this shopping craze has slowly made it’s way into Canada, with us, too, now focusing on ‘Black Friday’. I find it interesting, and somewhat sad, that this happens on the same weekend as the first Sunday in Advent. A time when our focus should be on the coming of Jesus, as we reflect on this incredible gift that was given from a loving God. Isaiah declares in chapter 52, verse 7:

“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation,
the news that the God of Israel reigns!”

This is the good news and why we celebrate. The reason that we have HOPE, in the midst of all circumstances – the coming of Jesus, our Saviour and King.

This Sunday, Pastor Randall will be sharing about this HOPE, as we light the first candle on the advent wreath. We’ll also be hearing readings and scripture – and singing the first of the Christmas carols – all in anticipation and preparation for Jesus’ birth, during this advent season.

We’ll be doing something a little bit different during the offering time. We are inviting YOU to bring non-perishable food items and toys, on the Sundays in Advent. These items will be presented during the offering, and then given to families who are in need this Christmas season.

After the morning worship service, there will be a full dress rehearsal for the Sunday School Christmas concert. Please have your costumes and lines ready, as this will be the only practice before next Friday’s Christmas concert.

And lastly, if you are a youth – there is a Youth Hayride happening on Saturday from 7:00 to 10:00pm, at Matt & Jeramie-Lee’s farm. They’ll also be filling backpacks for N.O.W. So, come on out, bring a snack to share and dress for the weather. It’s gonna be a great evening!
