Happy Friday!

We were doing the ‘happy dance’ in our house this morning because it’s Friday today! For some reason, this week has felt ‘heavy’ and full, and we are ready to have a weekend!

How about you? How’s your week been? Busy? Quiet? Fun? Need a vacation? Well, I can’t offer you a vacation, but I CAN offer you a place to come to meet GOD with other believers in fellowship & prayer – bringing all your ‘stuff’ – whatever that may be – to our GOD who IS big enough to handle it all. And that’s on Sunday morning at 11:00am, here at Malmo.

We have a unique worship service planned for you. We’ll be singing and telling the stories of the old songs of our history. Pastor Randall will be sharing about the ‘Language of Worship’. And Jon Drebert from Covenant Bay Bible Camp will also be with us, sharing about the life at camp. (We’ll be giving you an opportunity to financially support the camp, during the offering time. If you so desire, please make your cheques payable to ‘CBBC’.)

So I hope you make plans to join us on Sunday, because you are MISSED when you’re not here!

Weekend News

Hope you’re staying warm in that blustery wind out there! I guess Mark Twain was talking about Alberta when he said, “In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four and twenty hours.”!!

We’re looking forward to gathering together this weekend. We’ve got a great worship service planned for you! The Ecuador team will be sharing about their missions trip to Cayambe. Pastor Marc will be teaching the Children’s Lesson this week, and Pastor Randall will be speaking on “The ‘C’ Word – When Jesus invites us to change”. And of course we have worship music, scripture and prayer time – all those things that are so important as we come together before our God.

Oh! And if you are a Young Adult (aged 18+), remember that the Young Adult Small Group is meeting tonight at 7:00pm at Wayne & Lise’s home. If you have any questions about this group, give Wayne a call.

That’s all for now! Take care folks & we’ll see you on Sunday!

News for this Weekend

Well, it’s the week after Easter and compared to the previous week, it is much ‘quieter’ around here! We’ve been enjoying the quiet, along with this beautiful spring-like weather!

We’re looking forward to meeting together this Sunday! Pastor Randall & Pastor Marc will be leading us in worship & prayer and Heather is leading the music for us. This Sundays talk is going to be for the young adults and those old adults who would prefer not to be so old. (I’m sure you know who you are)

So come out and learn some life tricks to staying young.

Holy Week Services

Holy Week is upon us and we’re getting ready to join together in a variety of services.

Tonight at 7:00pm, join us at Malmo for our Maundy Thursday service.  A time to remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples.  We’ll also be sharing together in the last supper (communion).
On Good Friday, we’ll be at New Sweden Mission Church at 10:00 am, joining together with their congregation, as we remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us.
Easter Sunday will be celebrated at Malmo with our 11:00 am worship service.  Bring flowers to decorate the stage, as we celebrate our risen Lord together!  (Sunday School is also available for all ages at 9:45 am).
Make plans to join us as we worship our Lord and Saviour together!

Due to the severe winds and crazy ‘not-spring-like’ weather, the Youth Planning Committee has decided to cancel youth for tonight.  The ‘Parents Praying for Youth’ gathering has also been cancelled.  Stay home & stay safe!

Also a reminder that there is NO YOUTH next Wednesday (April 8th), due to Wetaskiwin School Spring Break.  Youth will resume, as usual on April 15th.

Palm Sunday Weekend

It’s Palm Sunday Weekend.  I love Palm Sunday – the jubilation, the excitement – I can picture the crowd in my mind celebrating and cheering as Jesus comes into Jerusalem – and I can join them in their excitement.  Matthew tells us the following in his gospel:

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,   “Hosanna to the Son of David!”                                                                                               “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”                                                                 “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” -Matthew 21:8 & 9

At church on Sunday, we have palm leaves for the kids to begin the service with a ‘procession of palms’ as we read scripture and sing our Hosanna’s to the King.  So if you have kids that would like to be a part of the procession, have them meet in the foyer a few minutes before the service begins.

This Sunday is also a bit of a ‘do-over’!  With the spring snowstorm last week, we were unable to meet here together.  So the exciting things that were happening last Sunday, will be happening this Sunday instead!  Wayne K. & Les D. will be here, sharing about what’s going on with the Gideons.  (Last week I shared that it was Wayne & Lise – so that was my mistake – sorry Les!)  So if you’d like to financially support the Gideons in their work, we’ll be giving you an opportunity to do that.  (Please make your cheques payable to ‘The Gideons’).

We are also celebrating with one of our young families, as they bring their precious son forward in baptism.  WE are their community – their ‘village’ – so let’s be here to show our love and support for them!

Pastor Marc will also be back from his time at the Alaska Christian College.  He and Pastor Randall will be leading us in worship and prayer, and Christy will be leading the music.

A great Sunday indeed!  See you here!

The Construction has begun…

When you walk into the front entrance of our church, you’ll immediately notice that something’s amiss!  The construction and renovation work to install the new lift has begun.  The ramp going from the front entry doors, up into the main foyer have been removed, to make room for the new accessible lift, that will be able to deliver folks to all three levels that we have in the church.  We are excited to move forward with this project!

As with all renovation projects, there are unforeseen circumstances and delays that inevitably occur.  One that we have just been notified of, is that the lift will not arrive until the New Year.  We thank you in advance for your patience as we wait for the lift to arrive, and to complete the work needed.  In the meantime, we’ve done our best to keep things safe for you, but we need your help as well (especially with young curious children) – to stay clear of the construction area.

Thanks for your patience & your prayers & in your involvement as we move ahead with this.

Here’s a few pictures of the construction:
