Weekly News – January 26th

There’s a few things going on this weekend that I would like to remind you of.

Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:00am, we have Roy & Judy Louis, who will be leading us through the Blanket Exercise; an interactive learning experience that teaches the Indigenous history of Canada.  If you’d like more information on what the Blanket Exercise is, go to:  https://www.kairosblanketexercise.org/ .

And then on Saturday evening, there’s a Youth Skating & Games Party from 7:00 – 10:00pm at the New Sweden Recreation Centre. (The Recreation Centre is the building just east of the New Sweden Mission Church).  Please bring skates, hockey sticks, games and a snack to share and come on out for a great evening of fun with friends.

This past week, we received a letter from the Canada Conference Leadership Board.  After much prayer and discernment, they have nominated someone for the Conference Superintendent position.  If you’re interested in hearing more, please click here.  And please continue to be in prayer for this, as this important decision will be voted on at the Conference’s AGM in May.

Thanks for reading Folks.  Have a great weekend!

Weekly News – January 19th

“But in my distress I cried out to the Lord;
yes, I prayed to my God for help.
He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry to him reached his ears.” – Psalm 18:6

Another week of hard things here in our community.  Many questions, prayers and tears have been shed this week.  All we can do is continue to pray and cry out to God.  I believe He loves us and He hears us.  And though we don’t understand, really much of anything, we can continue to put our trust and faith in Him – in and through all things.

We’ve updated the Annual report book to include Pastor Randall’s report as well as a corrected crossword puzzle.  You’ll find the link for it, under Sunday’s bulletin.  Thank you for your patience as we’ve walked through many challenges here in the previous days.

Tomorrow at 1:00pm, we are gathering downstairs in the fellowship hall for our Annual meeting.  We hope that you can come and join us.  This meeting is open to EVERYONE.  All members and friends of Malmo are invited to attend. (Please remember to bring your annual meeting report books to the meeting.)

This Sunday is our Covenant Kids Congo Giving Sunday.  You’ll be hearing about the program and seeing updated pics of our Congo kids.  If you’re able to help with financial support, please make your cheques out to Malmo and memo it: Congo Kids.

Thanks Folks.  I’ll see you this weekend.

For more general information, or to see the locations and dates of the retreats, go to the Family Life Canada website.

If you are interested in going, please talk to one of the Pastors, as there are opportunities for group rates as well as resources available to help you get there, whether financial or otherwise (childcare, chores, transportation concerns).

Weekly News – January 12th

Good morning,
It’s been a tough week here at Malmo.  Hard news has come our way.  Heavy news.  Some news is known, but some remains unknown as well…things that discourage us and knock our breath out.  I was praying this morning for you.  Asking God what can I say to encourage you?  To remind you – and myself – not to give up?  Words often feel hollow in times as these, but they can also offer hope.  I believe God lead me to this prayer by Rachel Poolman.  I pray that these words and God’s presence will wash over you today and bring you peace.

Your touch stills me O God
when I breathe in your presence
I exhale your praise

When my heart is at peace
I reflect your love

When my mind is at rest
I inhabit your truth

Remind me of your presence
when I am shouting so loudly
that you cannot be heard

Soothe me with your embrace
when I am battling on every front
and fear seems to be winning

Confront me with your wisdom
when I have lost all perspective
and no longer feel you near

In the fullness of time
help me
forgive me
heal me
change me

Praying for you my friends.  I’ll see you on Sunday.

Weekly News – January 5th

I’ve been hearing many stories of you all struggling with sickness this past week.  For some of you it’s been ‘Round 2’ with fighting the flu bug and for some of you it’s been much more serious.  I am so sorry!  Hang in there.  Every week we think of you and we pray for you here in the office.  That’s one of the incredible things about being part of God’s family – you’re not alone.  People are praying and loving you from near and far, and I believe when we get to heaven we’ll see even clearer, the difference the prayers of the people have made.  It will be amazing and God will be praised.  But until then, know  that you are loved and prayed for.

“Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galations 6:2 (CEB)

Sooooo….I STILL need YOUR help.  We are looking for your favourite Malmo Memory of 2017.  It can be anything – something you heard on a Sunday or something that you saw that touched your heart or an activity that happened at Malmo this past year…whatever memory of Malmo over this past year that causes you to smile – we’d love to hear about it!  Will you share that with us?  We’d like to include it in this years Annual Report book.  CLICK HERE to send us your 2017 Malmo memory.

This Sunday all the kids will be doing a ‘happy dance’ – because Sunday School resumes!  🙂  So set your alarm a little earlier and bring your family for Sunday School at 9:45am and Worship service at 11:00am.  It’s the first Sunday of the month, so we also have the privilege of coming together to the Lord’s table.  A beautiful way to begin the New Year!

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Have a truly lovely weekend.

Weekly News – December 29th

Are you staying warm in this crazy cold?  I have to say that feels a bit chilly in the church office this morning, but it makes me even more thankful for my coffee and space heater!  🙂

This is the final weekend of 2017.  Are you a ‘reflector’?  I am.  I’m the kind of person who likes to look back and reflect on what’s happened, before I move forward into the new.  So I’ve been doing that quite a bit lately – actually for much of December while I was away.  It’s been a time of quiet and processing what God’s been doing in my life over the past year and considering & praying over the things that I feel He’s leading me into this next year.  As peaceful as this may sound, it’s not always peaceful or easy.  Looking back over the year, I see where I’ve failed and where I’ve been broken.  And the places that He’s leading me to aren’t always the places where I thought I would be going – in fact in some ways they’re quite opposite of ‘Delora’s original plan’.  But in the midst of me freaking out or fearing what’s next, God is SO gracious and merciful.  He comes and meets me right where I am with love & peace.  And because of His never-ending love for me, I’m learning to trust Him with all the details of my life, as I head into 2018.

Sooooo….I need YOUR help.

Just a reminder that there is NO Sunday School this Sunday.  Sunday School will resume again on January 7th at 9:45am.  But bundle your family up and come and join us for our Worship service at 11:00am and our after service coffee fellowship time.  It may be cold outside but the fellowship is warm at Malmo.

Have a blessed final weekend of 2017!  See you Sunday.
Delora

P.S.  The New Year is just around the corner – the time of the year that many of us consider ‘New Years Resolutions’.  Have you considered reading through the bible in one year?  For years it’s something that I tried to do – and always ended up failing.  But in 2012, for a number of reasons, I committed to reading through the bible in a year.  And honestly?  It has completely CHANGED my life!  God’s Word is relevant to every day life & He uses it to change lives.  So may I encourage you, if you don’t already get into His word daily, to do so?  For myself, I’ve found the reading plans from ‘Back to the Bible’ to be so helpful. (I like using the ‘blended plan’.)

Good morning friends,

We are weathering our way to a brown Christmas, aren’t we? Get outside and get some vitamin D on these beautiful, warm days. (That’s a message from Dixie, the counsellor.)

Dixie, the admin-temp, has prepared this week’s bulletin. 🙂

This Sunday is Carol Sunday, and Christy and Randall have put together a service that will connect us again with the songs and carols that remind us of the beautiful truths of Christmas.

Sunday school this week will include an open session at 9:45am followed by Christmas parties for each class! NOTE: This Sunday is the final Sunday school until it resumes January 7th.

Also, this Wednesday, the 20th, is the youth Christmas party. It is sure to be a fun night!

Hope to see you all on Sunday!

Weekly News – December 3

The first day of December!

The days are going by quickly and are sure to go by even faster in the coming weeks. What better time than now to take some moments to stop and reflect on what all of this busyness is really about!

Join us tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 here at the church for our Advent Celebration. This is an all-ages event for church and community. Invite your friends and come for an evening of activities that will focus our hearts and minds on preparing for Christ this advent season. A light supper will be served.  There is no admission cost, but donations to help with supplies will be gratefully accepted.

Then on Sunday we will be lighting the first candle of advent, the candle of hope, and taking part in communion together. Join us for our service at 11:00am.

Take care, friends. And may you make time to notice Jesus these days.
Dixie
