Faith

My daily bible reading took me to Hebrews 11.  The familiar chapter about ‘faith’ and the amazing faith of our forefathers.  Right at the beginning of the chapter is this verse that is so familiar to me, but it hit me in a new way today.  Verse 6 (in The Message): It’s impossible to please God apart from faith.  And why?  Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to…

News for this Weekend

Well, it’s the week after Easter and compared to the previous week, it is much ‘quieter’ around here! We’ve been enjoying the quiet, along with this beautiful spring-like weather! We’re looking forward to meeting together this Sunday! Pastor Randall & Pastor Marc will be leading us in worship & prayer and Heather is leading the music for us. This Sundays talk is going to be for the young adults and those old adults who would prefer not to be so…

Holy Week Services

Holy Week is upon us and we’re getting ready to join together in a variety of services. Tonight at 7:00pm, join us at Malmo for our Maundy Thursday service.  A time to remember Jesus’ last supper with his disciples.  We’ll also be sharing together in the last supper (communion). On Good Friday, we’ll be at New Sweden Mission Church at 10:00 am, joining together with their congregation, as we remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Easter Sunday will be celebrated at…

YOUTH NIGHT CANCELLED FOR TONIGHT

Due to the severe winds and crazy ‘not-spring-like’ weather, the Youth Planning Committee has decided to cancel youth for tonight.  The ‘Parents Praying for Youth’ gathering has also been cancelled.  Stay home & stay safe! Also a reminder that there is NO YOUTH next Wednesday (April 8th), due to Wetaskiwin School Spring Break.  Youth will resume, as usual on April 15th.

Palm Sunday Weekend

It’s Palm Sunday Weekend.  I love Palm Sunday – the jubilation, the excitement – I can picture the crowd in my mind celebrating and cheering as Jesus comes into Jerusalem – and I can join them in their excitement.  Matthew tells us the following in his gospel: A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that…

Youth Ministry Workers

You’ve heard about all the youth that are coming out on Wednesday nights for our youth gathering. But did you know that there are a lot of adults working with our youth and behind the scenes for our youth?  We’ve just recently compiled a list and we were amazed & truly thankful to God for answering our prayer to provide workers for this ministry.  As you take a look at this list, please be praying for these leaders – whether…

The Construction has begun…

When you walk into the front entrance of our church, you’ll immediately notice that something’s amiss!  The construction and renovation work to install the new lift has begun.  The ramp going from the front entry doors, up into the main foyer have been removed, to make room for the new accessible lift, that will be able to deliver folks to all three levels that we have in the church.  We are excited to move forward with this project! As with…

One Church, Many Parts

I sit here trying to warm my hands on a cup of hot tea as the snow slowly falls outside the office window. And I wait for the final bit of bulletin information to come in via email. Somewhere, just a Pacific Ocean away, the real church admin assistant is undoubtedly enjoying a tall, cold drink as she walks barefoot on the sandy beaches of Maui, the wind gently blowing through her hair, the warmth making her cheeks just a…

Remembrance Day

Take a moment today to reflect on those who have fought for our freedom, and to pray for those in our armed forces.   In Flanders Field,  by Canadian John McCrae In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were…
