Beautiful day to reflect

Clary Nelson passed away last winter and the family decided to wait until the weather was warmer to hold a committal service. Well today we gathered to commit her remains to the earth from which it came. What a glorious day it was too. Warm, not too hot out. The sky was big and blue, and the expanse of the earth held so many variations of green. It was impressive. I spent the morning reflecting on Clary’s story and how…

A Prayer for Planting Season

Prayer for Planting Season Father, we are a church planted in a field. And though our own fields may be in different places we are still, in many ways, people connected to the land. For our food and sustenance, for our daily bread, we give you thanks. For the strength to work in our fields of service, we give you thanks. For this place, a gathering place in a field with roots that go down over a hundred years, we…

Being Present

It’s true. Following after someone requires intentionality. Listening needs presence. “Pay attention” the mother in the shop says to her seven year old. See what is happening here. Watch what I am doing so you can know how to do it yourself. Paying attention will help you to not miss the details. Drifting is fine for a hot summers day when you are on a raft floating down the North Saskatchewan river. It’s not fine for a relationship. Just…

Worship Cancelled Today – March 22

Good morning Folks! Due to the volume of snow that we have received overnight (& continue to receive), AND the poor condition of the highways on the way out to church, we have decided for everyone’s safety that Church is cancelled today. Stay home, enjoy some time with your family and we’ll see you next Sunday! Same time, same place! Malmo Church Board & Staff

Healing Today

You know the church’s history of praying for healing for people has been a bit of a come and go thing over the past 2000 years. There are seasons where we practice it well and then there are seasons of quiet. We see seasons of incredible miracles and then we see nothing for a hundred or so years. While that may be a part of our past story, there is biblical reason to believe that it can be a helpful part…

Praying for the sick

Last Sunday we talked about faith and how it gets tough to keep praying especially when we have had a few “No” answers from God. Well, some of you have started to ask some good deeper questions, the sorts of things we’ve talked about before, but maybe it’s time to revisit some of those themes. So the next two Sundays we will explore a bit about prayer and God and healing and the role of the church in that stuff.…

Kaila Johnson and her work in London

We had a great time last Sunday hearing from Kaila Johnson on the work that she is doing with ‘Greater Europe Mission’ (GEM), in London England. Here are the internet links she shared so that you can keep up with her and the work she is involved in. If you’d like to read more about her ministry & the mission that she is involved with, or if you would like to support her financially, please visit her blog at freshpagenewchapter.blogspot.co.uk To learn…

Our Scripture for Sunday

The mouth speaks what the heart is full of. See what’s in your heart, by judging what comes out of your mouth. Matthew 15:10-20 10 Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.” 12 Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?” 13…

Robin Williams, is dead.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS Las Vegas/AP) — He was the funniest guy in the room, something that made it all the harder for friends and fans to accept that beneath that reservoir of frenetic energy and seemingly endless good humor resided demons so dark they could push Robin Williams to suicide. It was no secret that the Oscar-winning actor had suffered for years from periodic bouts of substance abuse and depression — he made reference to it himself in his comedy…

Welcome here

When I was first asked to think about moving to Malmo, one of the first things I did was to google it. Of course most of the hits I got were in Sweden and I knew I wasn’t called there. There were no Malmo Mission Covenant Church links or places even on Google maps to see where it was. Over these years we’ve had people working to create an online presence for our church and the broader community. For a…

Falling Rain

Sounds as though most of the locals have their crops in by now, and I suppose it’s nearly perfect timing as the rain begins. It’s a soft, misty sort of rain and it’s beautiful. For now. Rain.

Psalm Two

Psalm 2 1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king on Zion,…
