July 26, 2020 – SCATTERED BUT WORSHIPPING TOGETHER

As you make your way through today’s worship service, instructions and suggestions will be included in italics. Get a cup of coffee and settle in for this time of worship with your community.

Welcome to Worship

At 11 am gather in a common area in your home.
In the centre, place a lit candle.

Gathering Prayer

O Lord, we wait for you,
and in your Word we trust.
By the power of your Spirit,
set our hearts and minds
on the source of life and peace:
Jesus Christ our Savior.

Amen.

Song words:

Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Come Thou fount of ev’ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise to Thee an altar
Hither by Thy help I’m come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand’ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Song words:

Everlasting God

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord

Our God You reign forever
Our Hope our strong Deliv’rer

You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won’t grow weary
You’re the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles

Ending:

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord

Scripture Reading for the Day –
Invite someone to read aloud.

2 Corinthians 11:23-28

I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?

Trellis Foundation Giving Sunday

The mandate of The Trellis Foundation is to “be a catalyst of biblical, intentional and innovative discipleship in the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada [ECCC].” It is a charitable organization that helps get the discipleship efforts of ECCC partners and churches “off the ground.”

The following video gives a good overview of The Trellis Foundation’s origins, purpose, and the ways it has helped:

The Trellis Foundation also has a special one-time Pandemic Response Grant to help churches navigate the season Canada is currently in. This grant has a streamlined application process. A total of $10,000 is available with up to $1,000 available per organization. CLICK HERE for more information.

If you have an idea for a discipleship event or program that could use Trellis’ help, talk to one of our pastors of a member of the CE board.

If you would like to DONATE to the Trellis Foundation (and increase its investment return, as Trellis grants come exclusively from the interest on its investments, not from the principal), please CLICK HERE for giving options.

Closing Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
