It’s hard to believe that it was only a week ago when things in our world began to get so very crazy. It hardly feels like the same old world any longer. Our civic leaders are making decisions for us that are meant for our best and we want to follow their lead even as we are praying for them.
Therefore we as the Malmo Board have decided to shut down all our public meetings for the next two weeks. After that we will re-evaluate, and see what the current situation is.
These are proper and wise decisions even though they may be difficult for us to live into.
Changing these sorts of rhythms tends to upset our sense of things, as if they were not upset already. So we want to remind you to take care of yourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. There is a lot
of strain on our communities and ourselves these days and it can help if we recognize that strain.
It’s good to talk about it and how you are feeling in the midst of it all. Engage with your kids about how they may feel about it all, making efforts to communicate with them what is true in all the noise
out there. And do something fun, whatever is fun for you and your family.
And keep praying. For your pastors, your church leaders, and one another as you are aware of the needs out there. Pray for our civic leaders, the health professionals, and those who will find this time financially difficult as well. We are a church that prays. Keep praying.
For now we are making plans to care and serve in this season.
The church has been gathering for worship in homes etc. really since we were born. We say we believe that the church isn’t a time on Sunday morning, nor is it a building. But what does it look like to use this opportunity to live that out?
Our current plan for Sundays is that we are going to create a resource for every family, couple and individual to use on a Sunday morning for worship. “Scattered But Worshipping Together” will provide each of us with instructions for a short worshipful gathering around Gods word that we as Malmo will do together, even though we are apart.
In our homes we will meet at 11am around tables or seating areas and follow through a set of instructions that lead us in a few moments of worship together as families, couples, and individuals. And though Malmo is scattered, we will do it together.
We as pastors and deacons will be contacting you as we go, connecting with you, checking if there are any needs we can help with. Expect our calls, but also decide to care for others. Call, text and connect with one another to make sure all are ok.
We will be using our church website malmochurch.ca for all our final communications. We will always point people back there for updates and important changes. Our Friday emails will engage and invite peoples prayer and praise items. It will update changes and be an ongoing source of encouragement and support as we walk through these days. Opportunities to give financially will be posted in those spaces with clear instructions on how to give as well.
May we ask you to lift up your eyes? Lift them up from the television news, lift them up from your problems. Lift them up from your worries your fears, lift them up from social media. Lift them up and set them on Jesus Christ who said;
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Indeed he has.
