I’ve been reading in Hebrews this week, and came across these verses in Chapter 8:10-12. Here, the writer of Hebrews was paraphrasing scripture that was originally written by the prophet Jeremiah – words that were spoken by God (Jeremiah 31:31-34):
“But this is the new covenant I will make
with the people of Israel on that day,
says the Lord:
I will put my laws in their minds,
and I will write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
And they will not need to teach their neighbours,
nor will they need to teach their relatives,
saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’
For everyone, from the least to the greatest,
will know me already.
And I will forgive their wickedness,
and I will never again remember their sins.”
This NEW covenant that God was talking about was accomplished and made perfect by Jesus dying on the cross and rising again. The veil that used to separate you and I from God (literally and figuratively) was torn and God’s perfect plan was completed – because of love – for you and for me. That’s what this week is all about. That’s why we remember and why we celebrate. No matter what the chaos and circumstances are that are currently surrounding us, we stop and we remember. We thank God for His indescribable gift to us and we continue to trust and live out of the promise of His presence with us, each and every day.
Today is Maundy Thursday. Traditionally, we’ve met together in the sanctuary for a quiet and thoughtful service. As we are unable to gather together in person this year, Pastor Randall and Pastor Marc have put together a Maundy Thursday Video service to help lead us through Jesus’ final evening with His disciples. We encourage you to gather your family and take part in tonight’s service. Click here to access the Maundy Thursday service.
On Good Friday, we have an opportunity to watch a streamed service, live from New Sweden Mission Church. Join us online at 10:00 am as Pastor Randall, Pastor Marc and Pastor Lawrence (from New Sweden), lead us in a reflective Good Friday Service. CLICK HERE to access the Good Friday Live Streamed service.
And then Sunday’s a-comin! Pastor Randall will be sending you an email on Saturday, with all the details of our “Special Easter Sunday Scattered but Worshipping Together” service.
Dixie has made a “Holy Week Playlist” to help you worship and engage during this Holy Week. CLICK HERE to listen to this collection of thoughtful music.
This week is our final Lenten practice, “Listening to Your Life”. Have you been enjoying these thoughtful and practical reflections? If so, please let Pastor Marc and Dixie know. They’ve been working diligently each week, preparing these reflections for us.
Remember – if you have any prayer requests, praises or pictures to share with us, please send them to me via email at: firstname.lastname@example.org or text them directly to me at 780-312-4620. I’ll be sure to get your requests included in next week’s News and your pictures added to our Malmo Photo Gallery.
