“It is relatively easy to meet God in moments of joy or bliss. In these situations we correctly count ourselves blessed by God. The challenge is to believe that this is also true – and to know God’s presence – in the midst of doubt, depression, anxiety, conflict or failure. But the God who is Immanuel is equally in those moments we would never choose as in those we would always gladly choose.” ~David Benner
I’m being challenged this week by the above quote. The Covid-19 ‘Coronacoaster’ seems to be hitting me again, as it challenges me to continue to live life with the restrictions that are still before me. Honestly, I’m tired of them and of how they continue to disrupt my life. I find myself being grumpy and short on patience and worse yet – getting grumpy with God. All of this is reminding me of Job’s wife…
“His wife said to him, “Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.” But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”
~Job 2:9 & 10
~Job 2:9 & 10
How wise and true is Job in this? Shall I in one breath praise God for all the good things from Him, and then in the next breath complain how awful things are and refuse to accept them? Deep sigh. The Bible indeed IS like a two-edged sword…cutting deep and speaking truth that is relevant every single day.
This is where I’m at this week. Sorry if it’s all too honest to read. But if there’s anything that can encourage you out of this, may it be that if you’re struggling this week, you’re not alone. I am too. Yet God still loves you and He still loves me. His presence is with us and He continues to help us through these difficult times of life, including our hard ‘coronacoaster’ weeks. Thank you Jesus for that truth.
