Pastor Randall once called this email, “Life through the eyes of Delora…”, and this one is especially that, so if you’d rather just skip to the church business and announcements, feel free to scroll down to the line…
It’s Monday afternoon as I’m writing this email. I’m sitting on my deck, doing some of my church work outside. It’s a lovely and warm (but not too hot!) afternoon, with the only annoyance being a few pesky horseflies. Life has been a little busy in the Doell home lately, and I sit here contemplating what it has been these past few weeks. I haven’t been able to be with you at church lately, and I’m sorry for that. I’ve missed seeing your faces, and I look forward to when I can be with you again. I am especially excited to see your smiles, as the masks slowly get put aside. I’ve been told by some of you, that church is starting to feel “normal” again and I am so glad to hear that!
I’ve been recording in my Church Office notebook, each week that has gone by since the beginning of Covid in March 2020, when we stopped meeting ‘normally’ as a church. The week of July 1st, 2021, when Alberta ‘reopened’ again, was Covid Week #67. Sixty-seven weeks of life being on a crazy Covid rollercoaster – not just at church but in every aspect of our lives. If I’m not careful, I can complain loudly about the inconvenience and the sacrifices that I (we all!) have had to make during the past 67 weeks. But then quietly and gently, God reminds me that complaining does nothing but weigh me down and give me a bad attitude. He reminded me of all the good that has happened in my life BECAUSE OF COVID. Yes, you read that right. If Covid-19 had not come, I would’ve missed some incredible blessings in my life.
So maybe this is what Paul means when he wrote these verses in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Because even in Covid, God is working things out for good for those of us who belong to Jesus. And to this I CAN say Amen! He has in my life, and I bet He has in yours too. Take a few moments to think over the past many weeks. My hope and prayer is that you too, will be able to see God’s blessings in your life, in spite of the difficult year that it has been. May we all be able to thank and praise Him for His never-ending goodness to us.
We have a few different things planned for this Sunday’s Worship service. First, we will be recognizing those who have participated in the Bible Memory Verse Program this year. We will also be hearing an update from Trellis Foundation. (If you would like to financially support Trellis, please make your cheques payable to Trellis Foundation and put them in the offering box in the Sanctuary, or go to Trellis’ website at: trellisfoundation.ca.)
Lots going on this Sunday, so please join us at 10:30am for our weekly Worship Service. If you’re unable to join us in person, we will also be continuing to Live Stream our Worship Service. You can access the service HERE.
