Weekly News-Nov. 12th

The Northern Lights.  Amazing.  Breathtaking.  So incredibly indescribable but beautiful.  Our daughter-in-law, Lauren, has been on the hunt for them over the past many weeks.  Coming from Pennsylvania, she has never seen them in person before.  She’s only seen pictures and heard eyewitness accounts from us at how amazing they are.  Well a couple of weeks ago, she told us that the Northern Lights were expected to be seen in central and northern Alberta.  She convinced Andrew to take a drive out of Calgary to see if they could spot them.  Darryl & I were curious also, as it had been a while since we’ve seen them last.  So we walked out the door, away from the house lights and into the field.

As we stood there in the middle of a dark and quiet field, I was amazed anew by the beauty of the night sky.  How the stars shine so brilliantly, when you remove the distractions of man-made light.  It was a holy moment as we gazed at the vastness of the heavens.  As we continued to look skyward, Darryl spotted them – the Northern Lights – appearing just above the horizon – lower than we’ve ever seen them before – dancing and moving with colourful brilliance. As the scriptures say, they were indeed declaring the glory of God and displaying His incredible craftsmanship!

When I experience these awe-inspiring things – like the Northern Lights dancing in the sky, or holding a newborn baby, or seeing an elderly couple still in love after many years – it’s an opportunity for me to say “wow” and “thank you” and to give God glory for all of this and so much more.  He deserves ALL of our praise and honour and glory.  And if we ever forget why we are to give God glory, all we need to do is look up into the night sky and be reminded again.

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
    night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
    their voice is never heard.[a]
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
    and their words to all the world.”
~Psalm 19:1-4

PS And for those of you who are wondering – yes!  Lauren finally got to see the Northern Lights herself, spotting them just outside of Calgary.  And she was not disappointed with what she saw! 😊
